Your own rules: how to tell the AI what to answer in specific situations
By GuestChat Team ·
Some questions are not well covered by the profile because they are not a fact, but a way of answering. The shared terrace that closes at ten. The pool that no longer has a lifeguard in September. The storage room you can use for bikes but not for suitcases. That is what Your own rules is for, inside AI Training in each property's profile.
What it is and what it is not
Each rule is an instruction for a specific case: "when they ask about this, say this". It is not for changing the way the AI talks (the platform sets the tone for every account) or for giving it permissions it does not have, like approving a late check-out on its own. It is for answering well about what is unique to your place.
How to write a rule
Tap Add instruction and fill in three things:
- A short title, so you recognize it in the list. For example, "Shared terrace".
- When does this apply? Describe the situation: "when they ask about the terrace or about eating outside".
- What should the AI say? What you want it to answer: "it closes at 10 p.m. and after that time guests are asked to keep quiet".
With Add example questions you can add up to three ways a guest might ask it, one per line. It is optional, but it helps the AI recognize the situation even when it is worded differently.
If you leave both content fields empty, the card warns you that it is not active yet: with nothing to say and no idea when to apply it, the AI does not use it.
Order matters
There is room for twelve instructions per property. If two could apply to the same question, the one higher up wins. Use the arrows on each card to move its priority up or down. Put the ones about safety or living alongside the neighbors at the top, and the courtesy ones at the bottom.
Let the AI suggest them
If you have already written the property information, the Suggest with AI button reads it and suggests rules for you. You can accept them one by one or with Add all, and dismiss the ones you do not like. Suggestions are added at the end of the list, so they never jump ahead of the ones you wrote.
Examples that work
- Noise in the building. When: if they ask about music, parties or get-togethers. What to say: that it is a residential building and quiet is requested from 11 p.m.
- Luggage before check-in. When: if they ask to drop off bags before check-in time. What to say: the real option you have, or that it is not possible.
- Pool out of season. When: if they ask about the pool. What to say: the dates when it is open.
Common mistakes
- Rules that repeat the profile. If the check-out time is already in the profile, you do not need a rule for it. And if they do not match, the AI gets two different versions.
- Vague instructions. "Be nice about the parking thing" tells it nothing. Write the facts: where, how much space, what time.
- Trying to cover everything. Twelve well-chosen rules do more than twelve generic ones. If you have not needed one in months, delete it and make room.
Copying them to other apartments
If you have several similar properties, the Copy to Others button at the top of AI Training lets you choose what to copy (your rules, what the AI knows about the property, the assistant's name or the image bank) and to which apartments. Careful: it replaces what those properties have today, so only use it for what is truly shared.
