Teach your assistant: what to do with the questions the AI cannot answer

By GuestChat Team ·

No host writes the perfect profile on the first try. There is always something you did not think to mention: whether there is a hair dryer, where the glass goes for recycling, whether the terrace can be used at night. What matters is not having everything on day one, but making each new question help the AI know the answer next time.

What the AI does when it does not know something

When a guest asks about something that is not in your profile, the AI does not make it up. It tells them it will check and passes the question to you. That question stays on your Dashboard, in the Teach your assistant card, which has two tabs:

  • It asks you: what the AI does not know yet, either because a guest asked about it or because some details of your property are still empty.
  • Already learned: what it has been learning by watching you sort things out.

How to answer a question

Each question comes with its property, what the guest wrote and, often, several suggested answers. You have these options:

  1. Tap the right answer from the suggestions. Check it first: whatever you pick becomes part of what the AI knows.
  2. Write another option if none of them fits. You are not writing the message for the guest: you tell the AI what it should answer ("no need to wash them, just leave them in the sink") and it writes the message.
  3. Save for this property only or Save for all, when the answer is the same for all your apartments (the check-in time, for example).
  4. Skip if the question makes no sense or is not worth an answer.

If you make a mistake, you have Undo right after saving.

Answering from your phone, without opening the dashboard

Every evening you get an email with the pending questions. The link opens the Guest questions page, where you see what each guest asked, translated into your language, and you answer it just like in the dashboard, with the Apply to all my properties option. If the link has expired, a new one comes in the next email, or you can log in to the dashboard.

Where your answers end up

What you answer is saved in the property profile, in the Extra Knowledge Base. Two details worth knowing:

  • If that property has the Extra Knowledge Base turned off, the answer is not added to it and the AI will not use it, not even if you turn it on later. Turn it on before answering.
  • If that detail was already set in the profile (for example, the check-out time), it is not changed. If you want a different value, edit it in the profile itself: that is the source that wins.

Common mistakes

  • Answering in a rush without checking. A wrong answer will be repeated to every guest after that. If in doubt, better to write it yourself.
  • Answers that are too short. "Yes" does not help. "Yes, there is a hair dryer in the bathroom drawer" does.
  • Letting them pile up. Ten minutes a day is enough. With a week of questions waiting, the AI keeps telling guests "I'll check" when they could already have their answer.
  • Saving for all something that only applies to one apartment. Parking or the elevator are almost never the same everywhere.

Where to start

Open the Teach your assistant card today and answer everything in It asks you, starting with the details missing from your profile: those are the ones that prevent the most questions. After that, check Already learned every few days to confirm that what it has learned is correct. If something is not, you can manage what it has learned from there.
